To fulfill part of its corporate mandate, which is to source out third party Clientele, Diamond Drilling Corporation of the Philippines (DDCP), a subsidiary of Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, bid and won the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Slimhole Drilling Project for Maricaban Island, Batangas.
Three other drilling companies, Drillcorp Phils., Inc., Quest Exploration Drilling (QED), and Exploration Drilling Corp.(EDCO),participated in the bidding process held on 29 April 2014. The DOE Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) awarded the project to Diamond Drilling Corporation of the Philippines, after it had submitted the lowest complying bid and satisfactorily complied with all the procedural requirements.
The Notice of Award was issued on 25 July 2014, and the Contract documents signing were also done on the same day at the Department of Energy office. It is expected that the Notice to Proceed will be issued before 15 August 2014, in order for DDCP to start mobilizing its equipment and commence drilling activities.
The project entails drilling of two core holes at Barangay Papaya, Tingloy, Maricaban Island, Batangas, with depths of 500 meters and 1,000 meters, respectively. It will probe the area for low enthalpy (about 75 degrees Celsius) geothermal emissions and will provide additional data to DOE for the geothermal conditions occurringin the locality.
